Why Choose Solar Hot Water?
One of the biggest power consumers in any home is heating water, somewhere between 30 and 40 per cent of your daily energy use. Unlike other utilities in the home, the annual cost for running hot water doesn’t change throughout the year. On average, a family can expect to use about 150 litres of hot water per day, e.g. Shower heads use between 7-12 litres per minute.
However, a solar hot water system, like the kind supplied by Eastern Suburbs, can reduce your electricity and gas bills by up to 90 per cent, as well as cut down on the amount of greenhouse gases being released into the atmosphere every year. Whether you want to save money or save the environment, it’s a smart idea to invest in a solar hot water system for your home or business.
There are several options depending on the roof aspect and roof space available: Evacuated Tubes, Flat panels and HeatPump. Apricus or Rinnai Evacuated Tubes are about 30% more efficient as they also work on the bright cloudy days (via UV). The new flat panels we use are rated 30% more efficient than the ones we used to use (i.e. 30% more hot water for less cost), and they will produce the same volume of hot water as Tubes on sunny days, but nothing on cloudy days. Both systems can have mid-tank electric element which means you don’t waste power or gas heating up water you don’t need. And the tanks can be connected to Off Peak to further reduce your heating costs.
NB: Many customers turn their electric elements off for 6-8 months of the year and rely entire on sunshine for their hot water requirements.
We are a specialist solar company. We have installed Solar hot water systems, including Apricus, Solahart, Chromagen, Environsun, Rheem, Dux and Rinnai. Our recommendation depends on the site, house size and layout, number of bathrooms, etc. Our installation teams are licensed plumbers and electricians with additional qualifications for solar, and solar is all that they do every day. Installation has a warranty.
Evacuated Tubes
Eastern Suburbs Solar is a proud supplier of the Apricus® Evacuated Tube Collector. This solar hot water collector uses high-performance tubes to capture sunlight (UV) and heat up your home’s water supply throughout the day. Thanks to its vacuum-filled glass layers, Apricus® Evacuated Tubes will heat water even in the dead of winter and are relatively simple to install and maintain. Furthermore, these tubes are based on a single design that can be used for multiple residential and commercial applications, and they carry a 15-year warranty!
Flat Panels
We use two types of Flat Panels. Roof mounted ‘Thermosiphon’ systems with the option of a Stainless Steel tank, or a ground mounted ‘Split’ system which give outstanding performance and are excellent value. Stainless steel tanks are imported from Europe, use high-grade stainless and carry a 15-year warranty. Split tanks are made in Australia.
Tank size varies from 160L, 250L, 300, 315 and 400 litres.
